- Objective
- Visualization Technology needed to turn their cart prototype into a viable product. They also needed to add a sensor to an existing surgical instrument for their image guided sinus surgery system.
-
- Results
- We determined the optimal path to market was to use an off-the-shelf cart and add custom parts to high touch areas to create a semi-custom solution. This allowed them to start generating revenue, minimize risk, and gain key feedback to be incorporated into the next generation cart.
-
- Surgeons loved the existing forceps because of their delicate lightness. Adding a bulky sensor completely changed how they used this tool. Through extensive use of models and user interviews, we came up with an unobtrusive shape., and an easy way to install the sensor. We also created a mechanical means of attaching the sensor that was highly accurate and repeatable. The success of this product led to the redesign of all other parts of the system- the curette, microdebrider and controlling cart.
